Kuntalini by Tamara Faith Berger is one of the New Lovers, a series of short erotic fiction published by Badlands Unlimited. Inspired by Maurice Girodias’ legendary Olympia Press, New Lovers features the raw and uncut writings of authors new to the erotic romance genre. Each story has its own unique take on relationships, intimacy, and sex, as well as the complexities that bedevil contemporary life and culture today.
Each novella in the New Lovers series is an independent story of about 12,000 – 18,000 words in length. Kuntalini is a rollicking, breathless plunge into a young woman's psyche as she gets brought closer and closer to the brink of a new kind of epiphany.
The design of New Lovers pays homage to the classic covers of the books published by Olympia Press. The “soft-touch” lamination and embossed lettering on the front covers of the paperback editions make these novellas a precious edition to any library. Both paperback and ebook editions feature special color endpaper artworks by Paul Chan.

Kuntalini New Lovers Book 7 edition by Tamara Faith Berger Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
First time reading erotica and am happy to say will continue reading more! Tamara really has a lot to say about younger generations and yoga, and she really said it in the most daring way possible. The writing is hardcore and punchy and really a turn on.
I've never read anything like this in my life! It's everything that writers have learned what not to write about - sex, feminine youth, prostitutes, and promiscuity - but in a rejuvenating and bold way. Awesome read and definitely will be buying the other New Lovers books asap!
I've been toying with the idea of jacking in my yoga practice. Too much chaffing and too little actual sweat. But having read this book, I've changed my mind. I think I've been doing it all wrong, and now I know how to do it right. A fantastic book that taught me how to open up and accept...
Kuntalini is jarring from the outset. Berger’s use of graphic language creates the rhythm—a pace that works to a climax almost every chapter, with brief moments of rest.
The book chronicles Yoo-Hoo’s moment of sexual awakening at her yoga class to her crazier exploits. Her increasingly surreal sexual experiences are beautifully depicted, from her explicit thoughts to the odd places and characters involved; in these moments we watch Yoo-Hoo develop and grow as a human being. Berger, by way of Yoo-Hoo, shows the path to enlightenment as incredibly demanding and perhaps never ending, but Yoo-Hoo always moves forward with purpose.
The novella is so powerful in its eroticism it could awaken something in you!
This book punched me in the gut and didn't let up the whole time I read it. Not for the faint of heart, Berger's "Kuntalini" grabs you by the jugular from the outset and doesn't hesitate to test the reader in terms of what they can handle content-wise.
The story of Yoo-Hoo, the yoga-doing protagonist who breaks up with her boyfriend then flees the city she lives in, goes from 0 to 60 with every chapter getting crazier and crazier than the one before it. You'll feel wrapt by Berger's primal writing style that leaves little to the imagination. It's pretty unrelenting so not ideal for the super sensitive. Pretty unforgettable.
The hardcore erotic novella Kuntalini is either a total abomination of yoga practice, or it’s the most groundbreaking commentary of the ancient spiritual discipline ever published. The book is a story of a woman named Yoo-Hoo who is sexually enlightened in her yoga class and embarks on a “spiritual journey” to Niagra Falls (aka bangs a group of strangers, underage prostitutes, and a guru in a cave).
Using sex and seriously explicit details, Kuntalini calls out modern Western yoga practice for ALL its flaws - particularly how modern yoga practice, esp in 21st century Western cultures, has evolved into a fitness-oriented cult with a focus on paying closer attention to the material and physical body, controlling it, and making it more lean, as opposed to actual enlightenment.
Tamara highlights this perversion of “enlightenment” and also proposes an alternative meaning for transcendence in our sexually saturated culture. By leading each chapter with a mantra from a yogi, she casually mocks the trendiness of "love and light" quotes people post on instagram and twitter, while also reconstructing the meaning of a spiritual journey for her main character. Her raw language subverts the classic passivity of yoga culture and digs deep into the core of why the practice exists in the first place to distinguish between mind, body, soul, and, especially, sex. Tamara's Kuntalini is not a story about yoga, nor it is meant to be offensive towards the ancient practice. It's a story about liberation. Liberation from taboos, constraints, and materiality of our being.
Stupid read. This is a miss.
